Application only – These are licenses for when users require a specific application within the Dynamics 365 suite such as Sales or Marketing.
Plans – Designed for heavy users, Plans provide access to multiple applications from the suite whilst also offering read and write permissions with the added benefit of improved extensibility.
Team members – These licenses offer reduced functionality at a reduced cost. Team members can view most information with the system but are limited on writing. We find that these are used by higher levels of management within organisations as they can oversee the business but don’t necessarily need write permissions.

While Microsoft used to make software solutions such as Dynamics AX, Dynamics NAV and Dynamics CRM available as separate business apps with integration options, Dynamics 365 is now offered as an end-to-end cloud solution. This means organizations only pay for what they need, when they need it.

The ERP solutions in Dynamics 365 are available on premises. Large companies can use the on-premises version of Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

For small to medium-sized companies, Microsoft offers Dynamics NAV 2018 as an alternative. There is also an on-premises version of the CRM solutions, but we would still advise you to consider the cloud.

If you switch from an older version of Microsoft Dynamics, there are two possible upgrade paths.

A reimplementation is a relatively smooth process. The more recent the version of Dynamics AX, NAV or CRM, the smoother the transition will be. The core of the business platform is maintained, but revamped. Most business processes can be moved 1-to-1, which allows for a lot of automation. Only new features or customizations have to be considered separately.
